Vietnamese workers need to improve multiple skills

Mrs. Huynh Dinh Thai Linh – CEO of World Trade Center Binh Duong New City said that in recent years in Viet Nam, especially in big cities and key areas, there are more and more foreign-invested enterprises concerned about a highly qualified and skilled Vietnamese workforce.

According to her, in Global Competitive Report, Vietnam is currently ranked 84th out of 137 countries with a university graduate workforce and 79th out of 134th in terms of innovation capacity. Besides, according to enterprises, although the education has invested a lot in foreign language training and IT applications for future human resources; However, many employees still do not fully meet the requirements of professionalism as desired by enterprises.

“Therefore, in terms of skills to work in a multicultural environment, it is essential to: improve capacity and skills through university; develop foreign language, IT, and digital skills to be able to participate in the global labor market, when Vietnam is increasingly becoming an attractive destination for foreign investors,” said Linh.

The case study of Human resources for businesses

CEO Thai Linh shared: “The pandemic is a huge challenge however at the same time it makes us recognize many things to do in the high-quality human resources training.”

According to her, in the past two years, businesses have faced many challenges to ensure their staff has the necessary skills to work and adapt to the epidemic. This leads to urgent requirements in fields and industries: How can businesses adapt to rapid changes in the general “crisis”? Businesses need to quickly understand the situation and arrange positions for suitable personnel. In addition, business leaders need to focus on training and improving the skills of their employees, so that they can adapt to the new business model after the pandemic.

The practices and skills training for employees will include: improving the ability to operate in the digital space, and working in the online environment; developing cognitive skills to ensure personnel can adapt to changes; strengthening emotional skills; build the ability to adapt and cope with difficult situations in the business environment. That’s what most businesses have experienced and need to make more efforts to ensure business continuity after Covid-19, Ms. Linh shared.

In the Covid-19 pandemic, online training – learning is considered the optimal solution for training the future high-quality workforce.

Prof. Ph.D. Nguyen Minh Ha – Rector of the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City said that the university has built and developed an online Bachelor’s Program according to the quality assurance standards of Quality Matters, US.

The program content emphasizes practical application. Learners gain knowledge and practice professional skills through case studies and practical projects. Upon completion of each stage of the study, learners are awarded the corresponding Certificate of Professional Competency.

In addition, online short-term foreign language courses (English, Korean, Chinese) are also deployed to help learners create a foreign language foundation for themselves and gain more confidence when working in an international environment. In particular, the network of links between universities and businesses creates good conditions for learners to apply their acquired knowledge and skills in practice.

Prof. Ph.D. Nguyen Minh Ha informed that up to now, the online Bachelor’s Program has had nearly 9,000 domestic and foreign students enrolled.
