The first opening ceremony of Online Bachelor’s Degree Program
At 13:30, on October 29, 2016, at Hall 602, the headquarters at 97 Vo Van Tan Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City Open University held the opening ceremony of the Online Bachelor’s Degree Program.
The ceremony was attended by the School Board, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thu – Chairman of the School Council, Board of Directors of eLearning Center, Ph.D. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa – Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Lam – Vice Director of Saigon Food Joint Stock Company, Ph.D Tran Khanh Lam – VACPA Secretary-General, representatives of Saigon Tourism Corporation, representatives of Vietnam Union of Science and Entrepreneur, leaders of departments, many lecturers, new students and their relatives from many provinces.
The 2016-2017 academic year was the first year when Ho Chi Minh City Open University implemented the Online Bachelor’s Degree Program. This is a new method of education, bringing convenience and great flexibility to learners.

Assoc. Ph.D. Nguyen Van Phuc – Rector of the university spoke at the ceremony: “After a long period of research and preparation, the online bachelor’s degree programs of 2 majors, including Business Administration and Accounting, officially opened the first course. Ho Chi Minh City Open University determined that online training would be the university’s most important distance learning method for the period 2013-2023 and in the future. Keeping up with the world’s education trend, Ho Chi Minh City Open University aspires to become a leading university in the Southern region of Vietnam and Southeast Asia region by building a training system and becoming a virtual university in the future. In 2017, in addition to the online bachelor’s degree program, the university will cooperate with businesses and organizations to implement certification training programs. Within the goal for the next 2 years, the university would implement about 10 to 15 majors at the undergraduate level.”
Following the ceremony, Ph.D. Nguyen Quang Trung read the decision on recognizing the list of students of the Online Bachelor’s Degree Program via distance learning.

Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade – Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa delivered a congratulatory speech to the university and affirmed that: “This is a new step of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, which not only meets the needs of learners and but also enhances the training capacity of the university. From the employer’s point of view, I realize that today’s recruitment trend does not pay attention to the way of training that applicants received. And I hope that the online bachelor’s degree program of Ho Chi Minh City Open University will boost your career and your future development opportunities.”
Student Nguyen Hoang Minh Dung, representing the Faculty of Business Administration, on behalf of new students, said: “Online learning is a new, flexible and suitable method for people who have worked. I am very impressed with the attentiveness to consultancy, preparation, student services, and the university’s training program. On behalf of the new students, I promise to strive to ensure the course progress as well as the requirements of the program.”
The ceremony ended in an exciting atmosphere and promised new successes. After that, all of the new students visited the classrooms and offices of the eLearning center.
