The conference on improving the quality of training and developing distance learning and work-study program

On the morning of March 24, Ho Hao Hon – Open University of Ho Chi Minh City held “The Conference on improving training quality and developing distance learning, work-study programs.” In order to properly assess the actual situation and the organization of satellite centers. On that basis, the university can organize activities that are suitable to reality and meet the need of the majority of students studying at the university.

The conference had the participation of Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Nguyen Van Phuc – Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the University; Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Vu Huu Duc – Vice-Rector and Director of Distance Learning Center (ELO Center). Moreover, the meeting also had the participation of leaders of distance learning satellite centers, the deans of faculties, departments, and lecturers participating in teaching the university’s form of distance learning and work-study programs.

Overview of the Conference

At the conference, Ph.D. Phan Thi Ngoc Thanh – Deputy Director of the ELO center of the Ho Chi Minh City Open University shared about online training – a new form of distance learning, and the development policies of the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City. Along with that are the sharing from Mr. Nguyen Quang Tan – Vice-Rector of Binh Thuan Provincial College about policies in developing distance learning. In addition, during the conference, the lecturers and the satellite centers discussed some essential points such as exploiting enrollment resources, taking care of and supporting students in distance learning, work-study programs, and developing short-term training to contribute to promoting a learning society and lifelong learning goals.

The difficulties in distance learning, and new teaching methods in distance training, are discussed and contributed by the teachers to improve the quality of teaching and learning of the Ho Chi Minh Open University in particular and satellite centers in general. In his statement, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc – Rector emphasized: “I hope that, in this conference, we will together give suggestions for the improvement and development of the distance learning system; discuss the strengths and weaknesses to give the specific plans to improve the quality of training and develop the distance learning, work-study programs of the university as well as its satellite centers.”

With recent achievements, the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City is always proud to be a pioneer training institution in the field of distance learning. Over twenty years of developing distance learning activities, the university has become a leading training institution in the southern region, with 13 disciplines and 27 majors, and flexible learning methods to meet the needs of learners. So far, about 40,000 students have graduated, many of whom have succeeded in leadership positions in state agencies, organizations, and businesses. Many students who graduate from distance learning and work-study programs continue their studies at the postgraduate level.

With the achievements in distance learning and innovative methods in the near future, the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the satellite centers, in general, will make new steps in distance learning.
