Science and Technology Conference Ho Chi Minh City Open University

On the morning of August 30, 2017, in Vung Tau, the Science and Technology Conference of the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City was held with the participation of many researchers, the University Board, lecturers, and leaders of satellite centers affiliated to the University. At the seminar, researchers shared research and technology transfer problems at the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City.

Four important papers were introduced by Assoc. Ph.D. Nguyen Trong Phuoc at the seminar. Theirs about the importance of current domestic and foreign scientific journals, the University’s position in publication work, and suggestions for publication of research work shortly. Ph.D. Vo Hong Duc also shared his experience in publishing articles and submitting applications for publication in major journals. Also, Assoc. Ph.D. Le Huyen Ai Thuy spoke about the potential of research and the ability to transfer technology in the University from products for agriculture to kits testing human disease and to functional products derived from nature. Additionally, Assoc. Ph.D. Thuy discussed her experiences when diagnosing drug-resistant mutations of cancer cells and the successes she has achieved but still has to continue to fight with cancer cells to return the patient’s life. Scientists also recognized that it was extremely hard to balance the professional work and management of operation, and most of them lead to failures in long-term research development. Therefore, the combination of technology transfer and cooperation with businesses, universities, and researchers is an important solution in today’s reality. At the same time, Ph.D. Le Xuan Truong talked about the problem of scientific research among students. He discussed the awards students could have, and their success after participating in scientific research. Ph.D. Truong emphasized that student scientific research is an invaluable course. Students do not have to pay tuition fees, and they also receive scholarships from the University. In this mention, the role of lecturers is from suggesting ideas for students to implementing instructions and accompanying them to the end of the research.

In addition to the main speakers of the Conference, the members and guests also had lively exchanges to propose the solutions for the upcoming development of science and technology at the University. Many issues emerged such as increasing funding for work before research and publication, hiring more staff for post-research and technology transfer, and allowing qualified researchers to participate in many parallel research projects, some studies need to invite more international researchers to make the research model more diversified, and the need for output preparation for technology transfer studies or to support the development of students’ start-up ideas from their practical research.

At the Conference, Assoc. Ph.D. Nguyen Van Phuc – Rector emphasized the role of research, publication, and technology transfer at the University. The school will continue to develop the Centers to carry out the transfer of technologies to serve the citizens and the country, especially services to support treatment and fight against serious diseases. This development was also the main direction for the University to invest in focusing on the applied depth of the University research. The University guarantees income so that the lecturers can feel secure in their research and convenient in their management. Compared to other universities, all of the University research and its image in research may be slow to develop but it will be associated with quality and substance with what has been spent on research. Research for a mission of passion. However, the division of work still needs the Dean’s attention so that the Faculty’s research is still good and the teaching is still guaranteed. The University must form clear research directions and research groups. Only then can we develop deep and long-term.

The conference on Science and Technology at the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City took place for two days, August 30 – 31, 2017 after the main conference on August 30. The delegates continued to discuss in groups to synthesize necessary contents for scientific research and information technology transfer in the near future.
